Over the Anzac Day weekend, the military base at Puckapunyal in Northern Victoria remembered those who help make Australia the country it is today!
On the same weekend, the Eastern Lions Kart Club in Puckapunyal hosted the Victorian state titles. Coming off the back of success in South Australia the week before, Alex Ninovic entered this meeting as a lead up to round 3 of the SP Tools Australian Kart Championship 3-5 June at the Puckapunyal venue.
In Friday’s practice session, 15-year-old Alex topped the time charts in 44.040 seconds, showing his competition in KA3 Senior Light Unrestricted that his PCR Factory Kart supported by Hamilton Blackstone Lawyers was again the one to beat. With 38 karts on track for the eight minute qualifying session, trying to get a clear run did not go to plan with Ninovic Jnr being 4/10ths second off pole position in 23rd.
In Heat One, a backmarker crashed into Alex taking him out with major damage.
Heat Two grid 23 resulted in finishing in 17th and setting fasted lap.
Heat Three out of grid 30, Alex showed why he is the current KA4 Junior National Champion carving his way through the field to finish in 11th place, again setting the fastest lap time.
Major incidents at this event saw the Final cut from 20, to 12 laps with Alex starting off grid 22. Using his race craft to take advantage, each lap saw passing moves taking him to 10th at the end.
Alex Ninovic said “I made it hard for myself not qualifying upfront. It was a great learning experience passing 37 competitors, setting the two fastest laps in three races. We will use this in our favour at Puckapunyal for round 3 of the SP Tools Kart Championship”.
